Opal
Opal has been a popular gem for many centuries. Structurally it consists of tiny spheres which have the effect of diffracting light at various wavelengths, which shows flashes of colour called iridescence. The multicoloured flashes of light the Opal emits gives it a truly beautiful and valuable look, called a play of light.
The fiery, warm glow of the fire opal beguiles jewel enthusiasts the world over. This radiant orange-red simply cannot be overlooked! The fire opal, which, like all the other opals, consists of silica with relatively high water content, was named for its colour.
